pH is part of the protective system
During the reproductive years, vaginal pH is often mildly acidic at about 3.8–4.5. Lactic-acid-producing Lactobacillus species help maintain that environment. Menstrual blood, semen, or microbiome changes can temporarily raise pH while odor or discharge changes too.
